Understanding Your CAPP Degree Evaluation Detail Requirements

The CAPP Degree Evaluation is separated into the following sections:

Student Records Information

Student Progress Snapshot

Area Requirements

Curriculum Requirements Secion Field Headers

NOTE: Each area has a total credits and GPA calculation. For this example, the Area description indicates that a minimum of 2.25 GPA must be earned for the major. If a student does not meet the GPA requirement, but has completed all of the required courses, the area will show as ‘Not Met’.

What-If Analysis

What-if Analysis enables you to evaluate a different program, major, or minor.  A What-if Analysis may be generated should you wish to know the effect of changing your major or minor.

NOTE:  If you have more than a primary and secondary curriculum or more than two minors, it will not be displayed. However, you may generate a What-if Analysis to view that information.

IMPORTANT: Generating a What-if Analysis does not change your actual academic record. To discuss changes to your academic record, you must contact your academic advisor/program office.

STEP 1:   Select an appropriate Entry Term from the drop-down menu and click Continue.

The Entry Term refers to the Catalog Term which is generally the first term a student enrolled at NSU. The Catalog Term determines the specific curriculum requirements a student must follow. Please note that curriculum requirements may vary per catalog term. The information about your Catalog Term is available by clicking the Current Enrollment link at the bottom of the page. It is listed after the Program code.
STEP 2:

Select an appropriate Program and click Continue

NOTE: The drop-down menu includes both undergraduate and graduate/professional programs. Current students that are NOT accepted to a dual program should not run a What-if Analysis for dual programs. For questions about dual programs, please contact your academic advisor/program office.

STEP 3: Select your current Campus, an appropriate Major, and click Submit. If you have or wish to add a concentration, minor, or a second major, click the Add More button.
STEP 4: Select up to three Concentrations and click Submit. If you have or wish to add a minor or a second major, click the Add More button.
STEP 5: Select up to two Minors and click Submit. If you have or wish to add a second major, click the Add More button.
STEP 6: Select an appropriate Second Major and click Submit. If you have or wish to add concentrations, click the Add More button.
STEP 7: Select up to three Concentrations and click Submit.
STEP 8:

Please review the selections you have made. Select the Current Term from the drop-down menu for the Evaluation Term and click Generate Request.

Please note processing may take a few minutes.

IMPORTANT: Generating a What-if Analysis does not change your actual academic record. This will only display a What-if Analysis scenario based on the selections you have made. To discuss changes to your academic record, you must contact your academic advisor/program office.

Frequently Asked Questions

If after reviewing these questions and answers you need additional information, please contact your academic advisor/program office.

Who can use the CAPP degree evaluation?
CAPP degree evaluation is available to all degree seeking students. For undergraduate programs, CAPP can only be used for catalog years beginning Fall 2000 or later. For graduate programs, the catalog years available for CAPP may vary. Should you attempt to generate a CAPP report and no course detail information is displayed, please contact your academic advisor/program office.

How does CAPP decide where to place the courses I've completed?
CAPP processes your courses chronologically, based on a "best-fit" approach and how the requirements are defined. The process looks through each of your courses, and then assigns each course to the first requirement in your degree program that the course will fulfill.

The degree evaluation placed one of my courses in two places.  Is that okay?
Yes. CAPP is programmed to recognize that courses can fulfill multiple requirements if that function is allowed by your program office.

Why are some of my courses in the wrong area?
CAPP is designed to place courses into appropriate program areas. Sometimes there are multiple areas where a course can be used. Please contact your academic/advisor/program office to help clarify any confusion about your evaluation.

Some courses are hyperlinked on my degree evaluation and some are not.  How can I see the descriptions for all courses in my program?
The system only hyperlinks courses that you have not yet taken and that are listed individually (i.e., not part of a Rule). To look for other course descriptions, go directly to the online catalog and follow the prompts there.

How can I find my major GPA?
For most majors, all of your required major courses are listed in one area. The grade point average at the end of the major area is your major GPA.

Some requirements have "and" & "or" next to them.  What does this mean?
A requirement with an "or" beside it means that you can take the requirement it is listed next to or the one listed above it. A requirement with an "and" next to it means that you must take both the requirement it is listed next to and the one above it.

Why does my CAPP Degree Evaluation not show the last column on the right?
You need to print your evaluation in landscape format. In Internet Explorer click on File, then Page Setup and then select "Landscape."

Why is the Expected Graduation Date on my evaluation incorrect?
At NSU, the date does not always reflect the actual Expected Graduation Date and should be ignored.

If I am a double major, can I process both evaluations at one time?
Yes, if both majors are assigned to the same program, you may view both majors in a single report. For example, B.A. in Dance and B.A. in Music would appear on the same report since both majors fall under the same degree. However, if you have two majors in two different programs, you will need evaluate each program and major separately. For example, B.A. in Dance and B.S. in Biology would be on two different CAPP reports since the programs are different.

Does the CAPP evaluation include my in-progress courses?
No. Students can only view coursework that has already been completed. However, you may see your academic advisor/program office to view your CAPP report showing in-progress courses.

What happens to a course when I receive an "I" (incomplete), a “W” (withdrawn), or a “F” (failed) grade?
Courses with incomplete, withdrawn, or failed grades appear as unused on the evaluation. When an incomplete course receives a final grade, it will be applied to the degree evaluation appropriately. To view the unused courses, go to the Additional Information display option.

I earned a direct transfer Associates of Arts degree from a Community College before I came to NSU.  How does this appear on my evaluation?
A General Education area has been created for all Undergraduate students, which will be displayed on your evaluation. Your applicable transfer work will be displayed with a source code “T”. Any other transfer coursework that does not apply to NSU’s General Education Framework will appear in the Open Electives area. If you have transfer courses exceeding the maximum required credits, they will appear as unused courses on the Additional Information page.

I haven't declared my major yet, how can I be sure I am on track with my prospective major?
You may use the "What-If Analysis" to evaluate your coursework against any major. However, it is important that you consult your academic advisor/program office to discuss your progress and declaration of major. The What-if Analysis should not be used for course planning.

What is a "What-If" Analysis?
What-if Analysis enables you to evaluate a different program, major, minor, or concentration.  A What-if Analysis may be generated should you wish to know the effect of changing your major or minor.

If I’ve moved on to another program, how can I view my CAPP Degree Evaluation for the program I completed?
